Languages Curricular
"All human relationships are founded on the ability of people to communicate effectively with each other" (The Curriculum Framework 1998)

The Language program aims to develop skills in communicating effectively and competently in each of the languages we offer, French, Italian and Japanese. In addition, the program provides opportunities to access rich cultural traditions, hear wonderful stories, experience games and sports, examine fashion, film and literature and, of course, taste the sumptuous cuisine of Italy, France and Japan.  Learning another language and being exposed to a new culture tends to have a remarkably positive effect your perception, outlook, maturity and self-confidence.

Learning a language is a very systematic and rigorous intellectual pursuit. It will certainly improve memory recall skills, and will also contribute to your ability to think clearly and solve problems. You can gain a higher level of verbal intelligence and more accurate use of English. Although academically rigorous, the Language program is full of motivating, fun, and challenging activities.

In successful world economies, all high school students are expected to take at least one foreign language to the equivalent of TEE level. These people understand that if they wish to promote their country, engage in trade or, negotiate in business, then an ability to communicate in the language of our trading partners and visitors shows an interest on our part in other cultures and helps with our understanding of different cultures, traditions and customs.

Languge courses are designed to equip students with the skills to function in an increasingly globalised society and a culturally and linguistically diverse local community, providing the foundation for life-long learning.

As global economies and international communication increases then the necessity for a second language is paramount.
